I think that is most excellent, and even makes me desire a G43... which I knew little about before your post. Thank you!
One of my favorite scenes from the movie Jesus Christ Superstar were the Centurions (representing Angels) chasing Judas through the desert, convincing him to give Christ up.
Interestingly, there is a 1918-built Colt BAR currently on GB, that has quite a few WRA parts that also have the M.A. marks.

The ejection of my m1918 BAR is frightful... to those in the booths to my right. I wouldn't want to take one of those hot shells in the cheek.
The frame appears to be made of Aluminium... the wiki-sphere says that all post-war P.38/P-1's were.

> Steel frame I assume?
I believe so... I thought that change happened with the P1. I'll post more pics.
I recently acquired this 11/63 (birth-year/Kennedy assassination) example from Joe Salter. It must be one of the last P.38's made before switching to the P1. Really digging the instruction manual!

Was there something wrong with them? Why were they phased out?
Is that Mare Island?
Thanks, Chuck. I too am nearly 60 and was hoping to retire this month, but common wisdom is to not retire into a recession, so that's what I'm doing. So sorry about what you GF is going through......
You do some really nice work. You're motivating me, as well.
During the pandemic I got all motivated to start building again, bought all the stuff, set it up on my dining room table.... and...
I'll post some more detailed pix of that area of the suspect gun... after the NFL wild card games!
To be honest, I can't see what Chuck is trying to show, but my pix should provide some contrast.
How can I go about ascertaining that?
Yes, it's much easier to buy the kits than to assemble them! And fun, too.
I've got that Tamiya Jagdpanther kit sitting here staring me in the face as well.
But I still wonder... why is the serial number proper looking and in the correct range?
You hold out hope that the gun you bought off GB, without actually seeing it in person, is what the seller says it is. It shouldn't have taken me this long to come to the truth, but I now have.

I've seen it (M.A.) on a few other examples, but not many.
I have a Winchester m1918 BAR that was said to have been built in March 1918, making it fairly early. The story I bought was that it was part of the Winchester Reference Library acquired by a big...
I took another pic of the underside of the barrel in natural light and it seems to show the remains of a punch mark.

Agreed on the bolt handle cut-out... I assume it was a DCM gun that was...
Requested pics added to original post.
New member here. I recently acquired the following 1903A4:
Serial#: 3421904
Barrel Date: 10-43
M73B1: #23298
It looks to have had an arsenal rebuild (blued -> park) and has a Keystone C-stock...
The Fighting Seabees? That looks like John Wayne to me.
But it’s in ALL CAPS, so it’s true.
