Hi All,
Was poking around on the web looking at M1903 takedown tools. Is there any sort of reference to the manufacturers? Are any considered "better" than the others?
How about the...
I was reading posts elsewhere and ran into the terms " TE & MW numbers"... Anyone know what those are?
Anyone know what this tool is... apparently for measuring crown condition:

So are we saying the A3 sight is calibrated for essentially 150 gr. flat base moving at say 2740 fps. ?
Any chance the M1 is a more accurate or effective spec? (Idea here being to pick a spec to...
How can a tell a USMC sight hood from any other one?
I've read (but don't know if it's true) that only the USMC version was intended to be left on the rifle while using the rifle?
I'm not thinking about buying one from Boyd's... so much as trying to figure out what I actually have. (I have read elsewhere that the Boyd's stocks don't come up to milspec.)
I'm sorry I have to...
Is it correct to say that A3 stocks were "supposed" to be quarter sawn wood and that quarter sawn generally has straight grain lines.
I know I should get a camera... but I'm looking at my stock...
I have to admit, if it's done right, I don't mind shiny.
Thick shiny... like a layer of glass over the wood, I like, on the right gun. I like shiny on milsurps to, as long as isn't that bar top...
Seems like I should know this, but somehow I'm just not sure which bullet weight and velocity the marks on the peep sight are pre-calibrated for?
Ok, I think this is where I got off track... the single treat bolts would have to be SA or RIA, true? Since this one has an "R" on it, it's a Remington bolt and thus not part of the problem bolts?

Not sitting with the rifle at the moment, but I notice vishooter keeps a list of serial to barrel dates. I guess I could send him mine for the record? I might as well "join the club" of M1903/A3...
I'll have to check more closely. I don't have it sitting here with me. I guess this is a good excuse to break down and buy a digital camera over the holidays, so I can post some pix.
Hi All,
Finally got my 03A3 home from the waiting period.
In the mean time I found out about straight vrs. swept bolts.
I seem to have a straight bolt...
Does this mean the gun should...
I guess we're on the same page, real '06 performance is an artifact of jacketed bullets. So I guess the choices are buy/make them, or accept the limitations of the caliber with cast (especially plain...
That's interesting.
This vid shows the difference I'm thinking of pretty well... He's got two A3's. One is dark. One is lighter, similar to the one I'm waiting to get out of the Ca. waiting period...
Is that the Lee mold intended for 7.62x39 ? (C312-155-2R)
Do you size those or use them a full 0.004 over .308?
Hi All, was looking at the sticky "Remington 1903A3 (displaying original configuration and finish)"... and some photos had really dark wood... almost like old forest Honduran Mahogany, the others...
I guess this is the bottom line for me on cast and .30 cal rifles...
If I'm limited to the same velocities as cast handgun bullets... seems more effective to just a use a .44 mag hangun, after all...
Have been digging through reloading data as of late. Trying to decide on powders.
I noticed that IMR 4895 shows up in a lot of applications.
What really caught my eye is that it shows up in...
I guess you could use paper caps... I've read of some folks using match heads, but I suspect it's very corrosive. I wouldn't do that unless the stuff really had hit the fan. Between the corrosive...
Hi All,
Anxiously awaiting the release of my 03A3 from Ca's waiting period...
It looks to have been refinished and seems to be an oil finish.
So how do clean an oil finish?
With guns...
Quick Question, if anyone knows... Where is CAI getting all these RC guns? Is Russia just dumping them, or are they coming back in from other communist countries?

I should invest in a camera. Not sure the dealer would like that though.
It's not purple. It was light enough grey I almost thought it was blue that had been buffed too much. But really I think...
How does one identify an RC? I was thinking there'd be an x on the receiver. I didn't notice one. Will have to go back to the store and check.
It doesn't look like shellac. At least not the red...
Hi All,
Ran into a BYF 45 in my travels. Haven't got any pix, but seems like a period correct piece. Only minus (other than it being late war manufacture) is a coat of Bubba-goo high gloss...
Hmm... well, that pretty much confirms my feelings that if you're going to shoot cast in a .30 cal rifle, there's not much point to having more case capacity than say a 30-30.
On the one hand the...
