Bill emailed me once that all the hardbacks and the split backs marked SEY, A.I. and the really rare A1/M2 (got one!) were made in 1945-46. The "J" split backs were made in the mid-60s if memory...
You can see carbines in photos #46, 61 & 71. "Banana clips" are shown in photos 56 & 57. I've seen a few of these photos before, but not the whole collection. You couldn't tell where they were taken...
Thanks Charlie,
I do stop by once or twice a week to listen and learn, I just haven't been bothering anybody in awhile.
And I'm not the only one who has been lucky with selling mags. Look what...
Hi guys, nobody was more surprised than I with what my mags sold for. Some of them were the best $15 I ever spent! :super:
I think detailed photos AND descriptions make a big difference.
Also,...
Gee Charlie, like I said, "I am not an expert, though I have been corrected by plenty over the years."
Sure fooled me and I guess at least five others.
It sure should....blown up as large as my browser allows, I think I can almost see a shadow of one, but the way the wood grain flows seems to make it less likely. Light can play tricks however.
I am not an expert, though I have been corrected by plenty over the years.
It is flat under the forearm like a Winchester, the M2 cut is not factory, the wear & dings looks honest, the #8612...
Thanks for the praise!
Sorry, I should have mentioned it. The serial # is 5463xxx. CC says it was manufactured in Aug. 44.
On the xx recoil plate screw, I'm at a loss though I was told on the...
I posted this on the CMP forum and thought I would share here too.

I bought this last weekend...
No idea if this helps, but my Std. Pro. carbines are # 20919xx & 21184xx, so right in the middle of the first block.
Anybody have The M1 Carbine by Tom Laemlein and if so, is it worth owning? Wife is looking for ideas for a Xmas present for yours truly. She was not amused when I suggested another carbine....
Here is a U-Tube link that is a little longer, but ends before the "shooting the prisoner" scene. It is also higher resolution. I could have sworn that I saw a Johnson rifle being used....
I have a half dozen hardback SEY 30 rounders, including an unused one, that I bought the past year never spending over $50. I rarely spend over $30 for a USGI splitback. People can ask $200 for one,...
Sell away....the real carbine addicts will be needing a fix.
I can quit anytime I want.
It was fun while it lasted.
They will have some "junk" barreled receivers for sale before too long.
That might have been me with the odd-ball. <a href="http://s564.photobucket.com/albums/ss84/dnikkor/MISC%20M1%20Carbine/?action=view¤t=US_Co_1.jpg" target="_blank"><img...
Even though the CMP is running out of carbines, I'm passing on this offering. I'm afraid the condition of the carbine will match the condition of my wallet.
I'll just have to be content with the...
Great looking carbine with lovely wood. Hope it shoots as nice as it looks. It sounds like you did fine with your trade to me.
It fits like a charm and the pins line right up. I got the one for both milled and cast, which is the smart way to go. :super:
I had the pleasure today to buy one of these sight blocks in person from Steve. I haven't used it yet, but have no doubt that this will do a great job. Real nicely milled.
Steve is a very...
Easy solution, buy a carbine (or two or three, etc.) that you wouldn't be afraid to shoot. Save your rare examples.
the horror....the horror
:yikes:
Same here. It was down most of Wednesday and still is Thursday morn.
You just gotta keep your eyes open. No sense paying any more than you have to.
My understanding is that both J and J were made by B. Jahn. And I sure agree with you on the absurdity of some of...
