I am currently writing a scholarly book on Lee-Enfield Royal Irish Constabulary pattern carbines, 11,200 of which were in the early 20th century converted to the police pattern from the UK...
Full Sets
Folks, I’m a great believer that the essence of collecting is to attain complete sets of variations of various models. While I still have a way to go on my .303 Martinis, not to mention...
As a matter of potential interest, here's a link to my new article on converted Martini-Henry carbines in the NSW gaols service, c. 1880: Douglas Munro - Academia.edu

This is a great rifle, Terry. Looks to be a third pattern upgraded from first pattern. I've got one too, serial number B9230, made in Nov. 1872 as a 1 patt. and then turned into a 3 patt. What's the...
Gents,
I know many of us are permanently on the hunt for reproduction clearing rods for our various long Lees and carbines and .303 Martinis. For me, it’s been a never-ending quest over the past...
Thanks very much, gents, much appreciated — Coggo
Jc5, it (2020) is a supplement to the older one (2014), which in turn was a slightly revised version of the thing that appeared in Skennerton's magazine (2012). This time around, there's nothing...

While we’re at it, can you please tell me the original serial number of the replacement Enfield barrel? Sometime you can see it, partially buffed off, next to the retro-stamped serial number...
RICC Metford Conversions
Guys,
As you may know, I’m working on a large study of Lee-Enfield Royal Irish Constabulary carbines. My database is up to 212 carbines by now.
Can you do me a favor,...

Excellent, Gunner. Thanks! At your convenience, please let me have the full serial number when you get the carbine. I know you mentioned 8189 above, but no LEC Mk I* was ever produced without a...
Thanks, Carl. Can you let me have some info on both carbines? What I need is:
1. Receiver serial number.
2. All crown cypher data.
3. All butt conversion info (the roundel on the butt).
4. All...
RIC Carbine Survival Rate Anomaly
Friends,
As you may have seen from an earlier posting at this forum, I am doing research into, and building a database on, Lee-Enfield RIC pattern carbines. At...
Friends,
Thank you for submitting your RIC carbines’ data to me. I have, however, been running into some confusion on the issue if the “sun” stamp I mentioned. I may not have explained myself...
Tatou, feel free to send me pics of both. I'll be happy to identify both firearms for you. My e-mail address is dpmunro9@gmail.com.
I'll look forward to hearing from you.

RIC Carbine Research and Survey (please sticky)
Greetings, all.
This message is being posted to various historical and gun-collecting forums, specifically to those related to...
Roy,
The odd charger bridge is the short-lived first pattern bridge. I have a couple of CLLEs (no star). One has a normal (second pattern) bridge and the other has a first pattern bridge. The one...
Can't quite tell: is this an 1892 rifle, please? And what is that serial number? Looks like 9217A?

Most interesting, Superbee. What we seem to have is an old MLM mk. II that was converted to CLLE mk. I* in 1910. As part of that conversion process, it was given a new-made...

The crown-over-V mark is a London post-proof inspection or "view" stamp. I would expect the find the same stamp at the breech end of the barrel and/or on the nocksform.

If truly in nice condition and with its upper handguard (very, very important), the RIC carbine could be worth $1,200 retail (less at auction). As for $4,300 for the civvy Lee-Metford, I'd say that's...
