Poulins Lot 2006. SMLE MK III* Bolt Action Military Issue Repeating Service Rifle by London Small Arms Co., 1916 Sniper’s Rifle with Bayonet and Periscopic Prism Co. Telescope. Cal. 303 Britishicon. S# F1878. Overall condition is good plus. Bore is near excellent. Very good blue on receiver and front muzzle. Scope shows nearly all original enamel and blue. Has good optics. Scope rings and base are numbered to the rifle. It is mounted on left side of receiver and is accompanied by a leather case also numbered to the firearm. Upper hand guards are very good showing no significant gouges or cracks. Lower hand guard is good, showing minor handling marks and is somewhat dirty. Buttstock in good condition with miscellaneous minor handling marks and a hairline crack, possibly repaired, just behind the bolt. Leather sling is soft and pliable yet shows it’s age. Leather scope case is in excellent condition and a little dry in the hasp area. Bayonet is good with cleaned pitting on the tip section forward of the blood grove and on the hilt, rear of handle and latch. 16 3 / 4” blade. Marked “Remington 1907” and “11 15”. Leather sheath and frog by John Lowe & Co., 1950 are in good condition. (07-1256 / BK / BS) Curio. Est. $ 2000 - 3000.

Edit: UPDATE..... Sold for $2,050 U.S.

This appears to be the same rifle that was sold for $4,600 U.S. at the last Poulin's auction, March 7,8,9, 2008. This piece was discussed in detail in the after auction thread here:

I finally found some time to provide the membership an update and feedback on these recent Fall firearms editions of the Poulin's Auction (click here) and James Julia Auction (click here)

We were fortunate enough to have our own Roving Reporter on the ground at these auctions, to provide his opinion and analysis on some of the more interesting items, after he had a chance to examine and handle them up close.

I'll spread these reports over several posts in this thread during the next few days, but let's start with the first five items of interest.

    Regards,
    Badger

Poulins 2015 - Britishicon No. 1 MK VI SMLE Bolt Action Rifle. Cal. 303 Brit. S# A0277. Overall condition is good. Bore is very good. Metal of rifle shows better than 85% original finish with high edge wear and light scratching throughout. Upper hand guards show good having mostly light but a couple of moderate nicks present. Coarse checkered lower hand guard shows good with light nicking toward the front and a few more moderate dents and a couple of chips toward the rear. Buttstock shows good with light and moderate dinging throughout and the number 821 painted on the left hand side. Rifle has a brass museum tag with ‘#050’ on the trigger guard. British sling shows very good. (07-1668 / BK / BS) Curio. Est. $ 1500 - 2500.

    Attachment 2253-Attachment 2254-Attachment 2255-Attachment 2256-Attachment 2257-Attachment 2258

Lot 2015 - SMLE Mk VI—1930 original s/n A0277 reserial numbered 13A on receiver, bolt and forend. The bad: incorrect Fazakerly rear sight, modified incorrect SMLE Mk III cut off, incorrect but proper front sight protector, it is waisted but is marked SM41. Rifle has lots of dings and forend appears to have been lightly sanded a long time ago. The good : still has original SMLE Mk VI mag and the major parts match. Therefore museam quality no..but still decent example with problems.

    Sold for $3,450 U.S.

Price includes auction house Buyer's Premium of 15-17%

Poulins 2016 - Mauser 98 (Cutaway) Bolt Action Rifle. Cal. 8mm Mauser. NSN. Overall condition is near excellent. Bore is near excellent. A Czechoslovakian training aid which is a cutaway of a model 98 Mauser. The European craftsmanship of this cutaway is very obvious, and has also had the follower ground so it does not stay open on the last shot to facilitate example operation. Even the rear sight assembly has been skeletonized to show internals. Circled Z marks on many components. Has a 23 ½” barrel. Very unusual piece of military history. (08-848-1 / NW / BS) Curio. Est. $ 2000 – 3000

    Attachment 2259-Attachment 2260-Attachment 2261-Attachment 2262

Lot 2016 - Mauser cut away. Looks good to an uneducated eye, but forend within 10 cm of the tip has a repair on the wood. I do not know if this would be correct or not?

    Sold for $1,300 U.S.

Price includes auction house Buyer's Premium of 15-17%

Poulins 2017 - British Trials Rifle No. 5 Bolt Action Experimental Military Training Rifle. Cal. 22LR. S# T10023. Overall condition is good. Bore is near excellent. Shows approx. 75-80% of the arsenal blue finish with approx. 1” deep scratch on the left side of the receiver and the balance showing only minor scuffing. Hand guards show good with light scuffing. Hand checkered buttstock shows approx. the same. A British sling is included with this rifle. (07-2332 / BK / BS) Curio. Est. $ 650 - 1000.

    ***** NO PICS AVAILABLE *****

Lot 2017 - Trials No.5 .22lr — pretty decent but magazine with minimal finish and…..rear sight was lost and replaced with a No.8 sight. Totally incorrect and finding an original sight to replace it is next to impossible.

    Sold for $1,150 U.S.

Price includes auction house Buyer's Premium of 15-17%

Poulins 2018 - Australianicon Experimental Rifle NO. 6 MK I / I SMLE Bolt Action Rifle. Cal. 308 Win. S# XP211. Overall condition is good. Bore is poor to fair. Metal shows 90% arsenal parkerizing overall and a blue magazine. Buttstock and hand guards show good with light scuffing. Sling shows good. (07-2333 / BK / BS) Curio. Est. $ 1850 - 2250.

    Attachment 2263-Attachment 2264-Attachment 2265-Attachment 2266-Attachment 2267-Attachment 2268-Attachment 2269-Attachment 2270-Attachment 2271

Lot 2018 - No. 6 Mk I (Total sadness). It is an original No.6 that has been screwed with heavily. Receiver has been tapped for a scope and filled, rear sight is a fake, top hand guard has damage. Like the above lot, finding a rear sight would be impossible and the filled holes can never go away.

    Sold for $700 U.S.

Price includes auction house Buyer's Premium of 15-17%

Poulins 2019 - Enfield No.1 Mark III* (Cutaway) Bolt Action Rifle. Cal. 303 Brit. NSN. Overall condition is very good. Bore is near excellent. A World WII Cutaway that is marked “Lithgow S.M.L.E.”. Dated 1942, and further dated on the stock between two cutouts, “7 / 45.” The bolt, bolt head, and cocking piece are all cut to show the internals. The stock is also cut to show attachment points. Barrel has been cut to show chamber area and rifling about midway. The right side of the stock is cut to show the action, and even the magazine is skeletonized to show the follow up, etc. the bottom of the magazine has been dented. The stocks are dark and somewhat dirty in appearance. Also has a near excellent condition web canvas sling attached. (02-848-2 / NW / BS) Curio. Est. $ 800 – 1200

    Attachment 2272-Attachment 2273-Attachment 2274-Attachment 2275-Attachment 2276-Attachment 2277-Attachment 2278-Attachment 2279

Lot 2019 - SMLE cut away. Decent but does not appear factory as it is not pretty enough and there is some bad milling on the barrel.

Sold for $800 U.S. to Joe Salter (click here)

Price includes auction house Buyer's Premium of 15-17%
