Ok tried taking some better pics of my 03a4. SN 4992XXX all proper remington parts, refinished and blued where necisary. Wanted a shooter overall, and just looking for comments ect from the gurus.

Try to get a good shot of the bolt handle. As close as the 4th picture would be great. Great looking rifle. Have the cartouches on the stock been sanded off? I can not make them out in the last picture. The photos are nice and sharp. Good Work.
Only marks on the stock that can be found, is a "K" in the cutoff, rest dont know if sanded off or never there. This is the closest pics of the bolt handle I can get (my cam sucks for close up pics, and used the pics the original owner gave me) Marked 8 on top, and R on the bottom. Wood has a beautiful grain, and rifle is georgous. Just looking to see what could be wrong on it, and that could be replaced to make more correct (yes I know the scope needs to be weaver and rings parked, and barrel is replacement)
Matt, The "K" is for Keystone. It is a WW2 vintage replacement stock for the 1903A4's, and since it was a replacement it was not ever stamped with any inspection marks such as "FJA" or even the Circle "P". It was not sanded at all and is just as it was issued when it was new.
The Lyman Alaskan (M82 ?) was one of the U.S. military's alternate scopes to the Weaver M73 (commercial 330) when not available. Both were off the shelf 2.2x hunting scopes elecro penciled with Mil Spec & a serial number. Although it appears that you have a commercial version & not a military one, it was indeed one of the scopes that were used.
The mount looks like the one on my A4 (CMP lottery rifle) and I think I see the appropriate shims under the front pad. Is it staked? My mount does not say Redfield on the front pad (above the serial number on the receiver ring).

it is shimmed and staked. Just curious cause I had one that said simply redfield in the rear in the past, and this on says redfield and pat number in front instead. Also is square compared to commercial ones ive seen...
Mine says Redfield someplace on it but I do not recall exactly where. It's burried deep in the safe and it's an adventure to tunnel in to get it out..LOL!
I have two scopes for it, the Alaskan in the photo and an M73B1. I like to shoot it sometimes so I leave the Alaskan on it. I do not want to damage the M73B1 from the recoil.
I think if you want a true shooter you should stick with the Alaskan. The Weavers are too delicate in my opinion.
