Check for markings as it looks like the plum colour that the CZ guns turn when blued at the factory.
AFAIK, there were no A5 guns.
The convention was as below,
The A2, was a Mk3 body with 2 barrels
The A3 was a Mk2 with 2 barrels
The A4 was a Mk3 body with a single barrel
The A5 was a Mk2...
For reference, an Enfield Made Mk1 in 1943 wouldn’t be marked as such on the right side.
That’s a real mix master and the only originality is the parts that are in it. I hope it wasn’t bought in the belief it was a genuine suppressed STEN.
Definitely a ZB39 barrel but why deactivated?
As you’ve said, the breeching face of the barrel and barrel nut, the detent for the top cover and the mating cross detent for the barrel nut. The L4 modification included a role pin inserted from...
That area in front of the mag will need an awful lot of work. There’s a lot of close tolerance parts to fit in there.
I was leaning out of my hotel room window on my phone to show my wife that the forest fire smoke had cleared when a B29 flew over. It was Doc making a visit to the base she was dragged out of. A...
Well this is an interesting tripod.
I actually misread your post and I thought you said it was an L4A4. As an L4A3 the lower is fine, my A3 has a Mk2 lower after FTR (it’s also a Mk2/1 body). The Mk3 butt is quite common and I dare say...
The g503 has details, it’s on one of the Wiki pages I think. Bare in mind the M31 is I believe wartime and the M31C is later. The difference being the cradle and not the legs as often thought.
That isn’t an L4 lower or butt, it looks like a Mk2 lower and butt. You ideally need a Mk3 lower and Mk4 butt and then etch the L4 serial on the left side of the lower above and slightly behind the...
So, it’s a monotype body with what looks like a monotype barrel and an Inglis lower. If you can’t see the tripod markings then the only option is to remove the paint. That area wouldn’t have been...
Have you got the correct block to fit? You need a Mk2 block for a Mk5/6. The Mk2 would have had a Mk1* block originally.
Or is it a completely new semi bolt? It may still need modifying to Mk2...
That’s fantastic news PL and good to see you back as well.
Gun looks like Canadian Mk2 with Monotype Bipod. Tripod looks to be a BSA Mk1 with later traverse stops and the blued parts painted green.
Markings could be EWS, AGE, BSA, CCM.
I tried to reply to your PM but it the forum isn’t working properly at the moment.
Disregarding the issues your having with head separation/splitting cases, the originality of the gun is...
I’m 99.9% sure these sets came out of the USA. I just can’t find the site, they also made parts for other guns. Someone must have been on their site.
They are scrubbed and reworked.
I’ve always liked the Owen but never found one in the UK. The vertical mag is very Brenesque.
I think Marlborough Hall is part of the Defence Academy at Shrivenham. I wasn’t aware they had a firearms collection but good to know. I would like to know what else they hold.
Yeah it sounds like the SASC collection at Warminster (which is where some of Peters photos will have been taken as he was there).
SERCO are a civilian contractor with fingers in many military...
My suspicion would be that the ‘11H 353’ would indicate the 353rd revolver of the machine gun section of the 11th Hussars of WW1 as that is how they were marked.
It’s unusual for the MOD to undertake such requests, or to have access to the material. Was it the SASC you contacted? Although part of the MOD, they are more likely to be helpful than higher level...
I think They were sourced from the USA.
