Real S'G' Safety ??

So $1600 plus $40 shipping plus my FFL's transfer fee of $40...... total of $1680 for the wrong barrel, repro commercial type II ish barrel band, repro safety and fake rear sight.
Along with some unknown internals.
$1680 for a shooter...... if the barrel is ok.
But a nice stock.

All described by the seller as original except the barrel band.

GB is a weird and wonderful place. There was a 6 digit Inland with aftermarket folding stock & original type I band and that went for $525 last month. It was correctly listed as an Inland. That's commercial maker price territory.

I'm looking at the safety and comparing it to know reproductions and there are definitely differences on the letters and spacing. I don't want to go into much detail on here but I think the safety is real.

"...to make their's correct..." No such thing as a "correct" M1 Carbine. Especially a Saginaw Grand Rapids Carbine. They only made 7 of the parts in total. The rest came from everywhere.

Just because none of the prime contractors produced all of their own part doesn't mean there's no such thing as an original carbine. They all had a chain of subcontractors for a reason(s), if that sub provided parts to one of the prime contractors then there's a chance a carbine as it left any given prime is original. Can you imagine how few carbines would have been built if all of the primes had to make all of their own parts? That would have given the term inefficiency a whole new meaning.

Another example I recall on GB was an original early (and correct) S'G' that ended on a Saturday afternoon. It sold for something like $780 but the winner also won on the seller's 7 million Winchester for another low price. The buyer bought the 7 million but reneged on the Prime! Woops! Bad decision. It auctioned a second time and sold for over $1600.

PS: why would anything from Sreisel sell for a reasonable price? All other opinions aside they seem to get pretty much top dollar for everything.
