My Dad had a 54 Chevy but it was a hard top and he had the 55 Buick, 88 I believe and he had the big 56 Oldsmobile, my first car was the 56 Ford, but a Canadian model. How many of these beauty do you remember?

My first car was a '54 Ford CustomLine. V8. Paid $60 for it in 1967. Sold it for $60 a year later and bought a 1966 VW Beetle for $600.

My first car was a 31 Ford sedan, it was all I could afford at the time, now I can't afford one. Progress?

My first was a '31 Ford Model A 2-door sedan, then a '50 Ford 2-door sedan, '55 Chevy 2-door hardtop, '64 Chevelle SS, '69 Dodge Charger, '71 Toyota Corolla station wagon, '72 Mercury 2-door, '76 Olds Cutlass 2-door, '77 Corvette, '86 Corvette, '88 Olds Cutlass 2-door, '93 Ford Explorer 4-door, '99 Ford F-150, '02 Ford Escape. In between all those was a '63 Triumph convertible TR3, "65 Toyota Land Cruiser, '72 Ford Galaxie 4-door. Of all of them, I would want the '64 Chevelle SS back. It was factory equiped with the 365 HP Corvette motor and 4-speed manual. Paid $3062.00 new.

My first car in 1976 - a '74 Camaro Type LT w/custom paintjob

In high school used to "borrow" my best friend's dads '66 El Camino (I later bought it and still have it)

My best friend drove a '73 Triumph Spitfire (bright yellow) - you could literally hang your arm out the window and set a beer can on the ground - with as low as it was I doubt I could haul my arse out of it today

Another friend had a '56 Bel Air with a steering wheel the size of a sailing ships wheel (or so I remember it)

Can't beat the dark green '53 Buick I used to drive around in - You can NOT BELIEVE the size of the back seat.... (oh the days gone by)

But I am VERY lucky - my brother-in-law is the head mechanic for the National Automobile Collection in Reno NV - and I get to help out any time I want - I have driven some beautiful automobiles including the James Dean Merc from Rebel Without a Cause - Sammy Davis Jr's Dussenburg (replica Dussy) - Frank Sinatra's '61 Ghia -

I have driven one of a kind cars (Aeromobile) and very limited production cars (1914 Detroit Electric - '33 Chevy Master Series Phaeton) -

I also volunteer at the Silver Auction at Hot August Nights in Reno - so I get to drive the cars for sale - we have to stage them from the holding area up to the sales block - - so I have driven everything from old T-birds, corvettes of every age, chevy's, fords (always loved retractables), restored and modified - - - even drove a custom Harley up to the block (scared me to death on the slippery flooring) -

So I guess you can say besides guns - I'm a car nut - -

My first car was a 36 Plymouth 4 door sedan which my Dad gave me when he bought a 41 Chrysler. Then I had a 41 Chrysler of my own later which I sold when I entered the AF. I had a 49 Studebaker sedan which was a neat little car, and I bought another 41 Chrysler after I was discharged for 50 bucks, and my Father in law, who was a Chrysler/Plymouth mechanic, bolted up the flywheel so that the Fluid Drive no longer worked, and it was equivalent to a straight transmission. After that I surprised the Hell out of some Fords and Chevvys at traffic lights. They couldnt come close to it. Later I had a 49 Dodge, a 50 Plymouth, 2 60 Cadillacs (not at the same time) and that Caddie convertible was the greatest! A 65 Sedan DeVille, a 78 Chevvy Nova (also a great car) an 88 Ford F150, a 99 F150 (which the Old Lady still drives in FL) and currently a 98 F150. Ford trucks are the best.
At about the time I had the 36 Plymouth I became interested in motorcycles and after that the cars were simply a ho hum way to get around when it was raining or I had to carry something I couldnt fit on the cycle. That was in 1949, and my Harleys have been my main method of getting around ever since. All the cars were 2nd hand, of course, except the Chevvy Nova and the 88 and 99 Ford trucks.

Here one of the rarest car I ever owned. ( This piture wasn't mine ) It was a show room model that travelled up from California in 65. Vancouver was the ended of the line and Dad bought it. Our's was 2 tone gold with a gold brocolade material on the inside of the seats. I remember that it had these spoked hubcaps that took hours to clean with a paint brush.

Well one day someone rear-end me, the insurance company wanted to write it off but I wanted to keep it and I had it fixed. After that it gave me nothing but trouble. Finally traded it in on a 72 Mustang ragtop which wasn't 1/10th the car.

That is one neat auction, just to sit there in the stands and try to guess what the diferent cars are going to fetch. Also walking around that many old cars before they go on the block is a gas.

For any of you who haven't been there and enjoy cars Hot August Nights in Reno is a great show and the auction is a must see.

Old cars? Thats about the only thing that rates up there with gun collecting!
My dad and I restore old cars. Currently he has finished and is driving a 1957 BelAir convertible and a 1955 Roadmaster conv.,but has also sold many finished ones through the years from a 1927 Chevy to a 1965 Caddy conv. He has about 20 right now but only two that are done. We hope to have his biggest expense finished this year,a 59 Biarritz. That one has more chrome than most others combined and has been the toughest restoration yet.
I do the mechanical,he does the body work. Others we've done in the past aside from the 27 chev and 65 caddy were a 1940 olds sedan(which I currently still own),a 1956 olds88,a 1959 Mercury conv,a 51 Ford conv.,a 1931 Nash sedan,a 56 Packard,a 47 Lincoln and others I can't recall at the moment. Current projects I'm working on with him now are the 59 Biarritz,a 56 Caddy S62 conv,.a 55 Chev conv,and a 41 Cad sedan. He has numerous others stowed in sheds waiting their turn.
My own toys currently are a 1921 Overland,a 40 olds and a 70 chevy pickup. I've had a few 68 Camaro's in the past,my first car was a 68 hardtop and in later years I had a nice 68 convertible but was forced to sell that one during my only divorce. I hope to someday aquire another as that is one of my favorite cars. Below is dad and my grandmother(Just turned 90 yrs old!) with his 55 Roadmaster and also my as original/unrestored 21 Overland.
