Was the Cooey sight fitted for the Military? Or was it just for civilan target work?
I ask; because if it's officially a military trainer sight; it should be legal in the Service Rifle trainer class. That would be excellent!

Yes the sight was used during WWII for training to give a more "No4-ish" sight picture.

Ovidio, did you get that No.1? Our Covid restrictions here are non-existent by comparison. I have sealed the deal on this one with a deposit and they will ship it to my FFL for free and reduced the price to $625. Wonderful can`t wait to receive it. This will be my first trainer from any nation. My Nephew who helped broker the deal says the bore looks great and i trust his opinions. He also was given A STORE CREDIT FOR BROKERING THE DEAL. I had my very first run in with an idiot in this world of ours. I called him 5 minutes after he put the gun on sale and told him I was willing to pay for it in advance in case the lock-down prevented me to go. I called him after one day to confirm I couldn’t go, but would pay for the gun, and he told me he promised it to another guy and would check the cronology of our calls.
He told me I was the first to show up when I first called...

You have lead a very sheltered life my friend if you have been lucky enough to just experience your first idiot in this world of ours. LOL Too bad about that one. Some people can`t be figured out, and some aren`t worth trying to. Yeah i would be very wary about entering into any kind of deal with a questionable seller.

I got “cheated” by a poor idiot. That happened because, a couple days earlier, I called another guy for a pristine K31 I wanted to buy and fit with a scope.
After 24 hours this guy called me ad asked if he could give that rifle to another person, who called and offered to buy that one and another he was selling. But only in bundle. I told him to go ahead. If he could get two sold, then I didn’t feel like standing in the way.
He thanked and told me he would send me info about other rifles he wants to sell.
I got his mail, and among others, he was selling a No.1 trainer. Original version.
I asked him if he could make me the same price of the other I missed out on, and he said that, since I made him do the other business, he accepted to come down to the price I told him.
It looks good enough to me. Any comments from more expert ones?
I’m happy, he’s happy. And we were both correct.
That’s what I expect among people sharing a passion.
Money is a means to a goal, but the goal, once achieved, has also to taste well...

I must be being very stupid but I cannot see any markings to show it is a 22 trainer.

The original III* markings would have been lined thru' and .22 and (maybe) No2 MkIV* would have been added.

Are there any 22 markings on the rifle ?

If it was a miltary conversion it would normally look like this (but never say 'never', and never say, 'always' with Enfields)

Parker-Hale, AJ Parkers, & probably others in the trade used to offer a service to convert your SMLE to .22RF & many were done this way. The original markings on the few I can remember were left untouched, so it could possibly be a civvy conversion. I have a BSA 1918 SMLE done by Parker Hale.
