"Surrounded by the enemy" Have a listen at about twelve minutes onward. Comes in about twelve minutes thirty...

You still can't hear that clang over gunfire though...

Thank you BAR, that's exactly the video I was referring to. Very interesting story nonetheless

I also thought it was interesting that he mentions that at the time, that they had heard rumors that that had worked. He called them tricks. I agree there's no way you could hear that in a huge gunfight, but I guess in certain situations you could

I always thought that the enblock clip / ping story was a post-war thing

I suppose it might work in a one on one situation or with one soldier guarding a staircase. The enemy would have to think that they were facing one opponent for them to rush his position after a ping.

I found an interesting ordnance photo showing the development of the M1icon clip dated 12-4-31. The top row displays 10 round .30 caliber clips, so there should have been a 10 round capacity, prototype .30 caliber Garand rifle early on. However, I have yet to come across a photo of that rifle.

    10-shot

Pretty close... it's for the White rifle that lost to the T3E2 Garand. The White gas system was used in the M14icon.
