Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Well my doubts about how solid the splice and the glue were have been relieved....
It took me 4-5 hours to remove the dowel holding the splice in place.
So i guess it was solid.
The two parts are now cleaned and ready to start over again.

Got a bit more done.
In these pictures i glued a new dowel in the fore end and mated both sections.
The dowel also had to be shaped to the barrel channel so the barrel wouldn't touch the wood.
The numbers of hours to fit everything nicely equal to a good day of work...

Things are now glued back together... hopefully this time is the right one...
A bit of a mess but it should clean up nicely.

Success ... other than some tiny chippings the splice is now pretty much straight and centered to the barrel.

The sanding and staining should take care of the chiplets...

Indeed, i'm not worried about them but none the less they are there.
Made a bit more of progress again... the ''rear'' portion of the splice, the rear handguard and the nosecap fitting are 95% done i would say.
A lot of time is spent measuring and drawing lines to help with the shaping process
The last 5% will be slow and time consuming too as it is done mostly with sandpaper and is fine tweaking and finishing work.
