Yes, they are two different rifle
The first, the one with the side scope mount is the subject of this post, the second the one with the aperture sight and the cut wood is just to show the strangeness of the aperture sight adopted by the Irish paramilitary forces. It's not "homemade", it appears to be very limited production by Parker-Hale.... I'd like to find one but they are rarer than chicken teeth
This image is the only one found on the net...

How old are you thinking this one is that you found on the net?

I have no idea but I think it has been around for more than twenty years.
The image is taken from here: (PPT) Lee Enfield Rifle sights - DOKUMEN.TIPS

Lance Lysiuk suggests cadet rather than Irish origins. I own one in Canada
and so does my shooting buddy. I have seen one or 2 others at gunshows here over the years.
None of these have any markings on the sights, or any indication on the rifle (for example stock discs) that they are of Irish origin. So still a mystery....

Thinking on this further...did Parker Hale originally produce a reasonably refined and marked version that was then copied in some armoury or workshop rather more crudely and without markings?
Or was the cruder unmarked version a prototype which Parker Hale then copied to produce a more refined version? Aren't there a couple of former Parker Hale employees in the UK
who might be able to shed some light?

Is this also in 22 with a "parkerifled" barrel?
Can you take the measurements of the view or maybe make a drawing with dimensions? I can't find it original, I'd like to be able to reproduce it..
