Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who beat their swords into ploughshares, will plough for those who don't!
Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
One of my favorites is "Before the Dawn" by Brigadier Sir John Smyth, VC.
The author, a Victoria Cross winner, has the distinction of having taken part in two major retreats of the Second World War, Dunkirk in 1940 and Burma in 1942. This book is a description of both these Britishmilitary disasters as seen through the eyes of a Brigade and then a Divisional Commander. It is also an assessment of where the responsibility lies for each failure. Fully illustrated with photographs and maps.
