    M1 Carbine

    Hi,

My father passed away recently, and the executor has asked me to determine values for some of his older firearms. He was a quick draw shooter back in the 50's, a dealer at one time, and hunted up until this past Fall. Through the years he bought and sold hundreds of firearms for his own collection, and did so much trading that most of his old guns are gone.

The one I am presently inquiring about is an M1icon carbine with, US Carbine stamped across the top at the rear of the barrel. The rifle appears to be in very good condition, but the stock has a very shiny appearance almost like varnish. My dad had told me, years ago, that he bought it from a serviceman who needed money back in the 50's or early 60's. I believe he said he paid about $8 for it.

I'm wondering how I can determine its worth now?

    Thank you!

    Dan

Welcome to the forum, if you can put some clear pics here you'll get an answer to it's value. There IS an appraisal forum as well...the fine details matter in these cases.

The M1icon carbine is one rifle that even the smallest details can make a huge difference in value so include photos of every marking you can see along with full stock photos from several angles. They are highly collectible in the US.

Thank you! I took a couple photos, but lighting was poor so I will try and get better ones and post Monday when I go back up there.

    Thank you again,

Collectors aren't going to want to see that scope on it. Hopefully it's a no drill mount.

The good news is that you have an I cut stock, although it's been modified to a low wood configuration.

Doing some research, I suspect this is a no drill mount so it can be restored. Problem is that it is missing the rear sight unless it is set aside somewhere.

Yes, and it looks butt ugly with that scope in it. As far as I know, no one had used it for years. It was my mother's deer rifle back in the 60's, but I don't remember there being a scope on it then, so must have been added later. I know it wasn't fired much back then bc I remember my dad telling her she had to at least shoot a couple rounds each season to check the sights.

Looks like a Red Bird M-1 Carbine Scope Mount...google them and this should show up. As pointed out, a no drill mount. Replace the sight with a blank and add the weaver base.
