Model 99 Arisaka
Hi to all,
I am looking for some info on my 4th series Nagoya 99.
It's an all matching rifle with intact mum, aircraft sight and dust cover.
Did this rifle come with a mono pod? From what I can tell the barrel band looks as if one might have been installed.
Thanks for your info.

The 4th series was a transition series at Nagoya Arsenal when the monopod was deleted from production. The only way to tell for sure is to know the serial number of the rifle. While checking the rear band for wear can help you to determine if a pod was installed it will not tell you when it was installed. Reproduction pods will mar and cause finish loss on the lugs so that is not a definite way to tell. Checking the stock for marks is best as the areas where pods laid against the wood for long periods of time will darken

given the serial number you have provided it puts this rifle in Nagoya production ( the 4th series was made by two different arsenals) and as such would have been issued with a monopod.

For reference. Mine is a 4th series Nagoya, 29,000 range. It sports AA sights, matching cover, and monopod.

one more thing for Aspen80, make sure you get a Nagoya made monopod. there are a couple different variations of monopods so make sure you get the correct one for your rifle!

Arisaka 99 Identifation & Parts
They are two really good books for identifying everything you want to know about your 99. Both are on Amazon. Just lookup Arisaka 99 identification and several books will pop up. One is $7 and the other is $18. The monopods were usually removed buy the troops because they were useless and the dust covers discarded because the rattled and made to much noise. It would give away your presence if you were trying to conceal yourself.
