Help: Mysterious stock markings
I just purchased my first Lee Enfield. It is a No 4 Mk 1* made by the Long Branch Arsenal in 1943. It seems lightly used and has no evidence of arsenal rework. On the wrist of the butt stock directly behind the trigger guard are some marks. One is "SOU 1" is deeply stamped and the initials "BH" are lightly stamped. I have attached an image.
Any idea about the purpose/meaning of the marks?
Thanks.

Don't bother. The SOU 1 mark is the large Command Workshop from Bovington in Dorset and the BH is most probably the mark of the Out Inspector

Thought I'd add as an afterthought that SOU 1 was the workshop mark because that old Armoured workshop used to be called 1 Southern Base Workshop as it's down in the South West of the Country but was then designated 18 Command Workshop and then 18 District Workshop. But the old 'Southern Base' title stuck - as these things do
