Bad Syria 7.5 ammo French ammo reloaded
My friend has several hundred rds of the Syrian 7.5 French
ammo which most of the primers fail to fire.
We are going to pull the bullets and reload the bullets and powder in boxer primed cases.
The powder load is 46.5 grains of powder and it appears almost like I-4895 but that load would be pretty hot for that powder for that cartridge.
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know what powder this is, or what commerical powder it's similar to?
In any case we plan on reducing the load a bit, Ray

even I would not do this
and this comes from someone who happilly has reloaded both powder and bullets from both 7,62X54R and X39 into .303 Enfields. I would be very reluctant to use/recycle any Syrian made powder short of a serious future apolcalyptical scenario.

It is probably similar to 4895, perhaps a little slower. Be advised to use hard American primers. The French
semi-auto rifles have a nasty habit of slam-firing, aka firing out of battery. The French solved the problem by using very hard primers. Also, seat your primers deep, nothing protruding. Good luck.

Thanks for your concern and I see your point as I heard the Syrian quality control was poor.
Those rounds that did fire when the primers worked, showed no signs of high pressure.
I don't know if the Syrians had the capacity to manufacture their own powder or if they imported it. I hope the latter. We will reduce the powder load a couple of grs to help ensure a more safer load just in case, Ray

IMHO I would reduce the charge 15 percent and get a chrongraph.

IMO I would use the mystery powder to fertilize the yard and buy a can of known powder with known reloading tables.

I think the shooter/rayg is going to reduce the load by 4 grains and shoot in a French
rifle. Correct? That plan will work and will run just fine.
