If you're not interested point him at me. Underwoods are some of the better, more accurate carbines out there. I own one. Here's what an Underwood barrel can do.

Because it has an Underwood barrel he is naming it as such. Very common for this. I believe that would be an S.G. serial number but I don't have my notes in front of me here at work. Anyone??? Still worth the money.

I see that the 3,500.000 range was a saginaw so unless he is mistaken about the serial number, which I doubt, it would be a saginaw with a 5-43 barrel.

When you use the numbers "3,500,000" that is a general estimate... there are S.G. and S'G' in and around that general area.

    Couple of points...

    1) The seller may or may not know what he has. So make sure you know what it is before you agree.

    2) while he says its not an import, you may also want to look for things like re-welded receiver, fresh park that hids things, and bore pitting.

If it is a good receiver, the muzzle wear is good and there is no massive pitting, it is probably worth $450 just as shooter. From the general description, it does not sound like is it a collectable. Of course, like a box of cracker jacks, you never know what you get inside untill you crack her open...

Saginaw S.G. only used SG barrels.
If this barrel is original, The receiver is likely a S'G' from Grand Rapids.
Underwood barrels were most likely to be found on S'G' carbines and the date is about right per the serial range.
In decent shape well worth the asking price around here.
See if the front sight has a groove behind the sight blade.
Get a description of the trigger group.
    S'G' parts draw a premium.
The bad news...... S'G' stocks are hard to find and pricey !
    Good Luck.......
