How can I fix handguard in my M1 Garand ?

Hello everybody,
in my M1 Garand I changed all three wooden parts but in the front handguard I have a slightly movement of about 2 mm.
How can I please fix it ?

I wouldn't get too wrapped up in trying to sort out a loose handguard. There's supposed to be movement or you'll crack the wood in the handguard when the rifle heats up. Too tight a handguard also affects accurracy. The match guns have the upper handguard fastened to the band so they float and don't touch the gas cylinder at all. They can't be stripped in the normal way though. How does it shoot in the first place?

Unfortunatly it shoots bad, the group is large and spread from 7 to 8 hour like it is in the image posted on the web-site I linked. Same result as the right side image, not at 300 but at 110 Yards only.

If you hand guard is to tight then it will string the shots. The front hand guard should not be tight as it will bow the barrel as it heats up if you use the Gas cylinder to tighten it in place. If you screw it to the lower band to stop movement you will not be allowed to use it in some Garand matches.

Tom Findley is not the person to use as a references as he has been a very big part of the forgery issues and was part of many fleecing of people even if by proxy. He also has taken many of our picture and is using them as examples without asking us. I do not want my photos used on his sight as I am against what he does and spent many years trying to stop people from loosing money by helping them identify fakes before spending allot of money for a $50.00 stock with fake marks. I am in Italy and I am not aware of what people is doing in USA ...

I got a suggestion from an Italian friend who is in touch with some M1 Garand shooters in USA : This should be a quick and dirty solution, get a paper clip and cut a piece long same as the barrel circumference and insert it between gas cilynder and front handguard.

p.s.
I only hope that the complete stock I bought at ebay.com in US is not a fake with fake cartouche. It costed me a real fortune including shipping costs to Italy and taxes to local custom.

Actually it is just a piece of paper clip, not really a spring.
I mean this

I have a D-Day June '44 M1 Garand too.
Can you please also check if this SA GAW mark is original or a fake ?

Rick B is correct, those target photos are mine from an old GCA article I wrote on NMs. A credit to the GCA Journal would have been nice.
