I was talking to a friend last night he told me that they had an IHC letter gap come into the store. He thinks the LMR barrel is original. the rest of the gun is a mixmaster. they are asking 950. is that an ok price if the bore is ok

Buy it. You can get the rest of the parts as you go along. A gap letter is not a common find.

ok I took a chance and put it on layaway. It looked like one of the imports that came back in the 90s. it has a vary small import mark on the barrel you would need a magnafying glass to read it. the bore looked great, the stock was trash. original finish my dealer said that it was the earliest letter gaps he has ever seen I think the serial was something like 4553 can't remember the rest of it. a 53 LMS barrel. breda op rod, WRA trigger guard the rest of the parts were mix of post war parts. other the finding a USGI op rod and refinishing or getting new wood I will leave it the way it is.

I wouldn't spend any extra money for "correct" parts, other than installing USGI parts. It is not possible to "restore" it.
Did you check the bore? A single round of USGI M2 ball, inserted point first in the muzzle, makes a decent "poor man's" muzzle wear gauge.

good find
Nice to find a gap letter receiver.
If it were me, I wouldn't bother with correcting the gun until I could get the right stock and decided to make the total $$ investment.
Finding an IHC stock with a relatively correct Julian date is probably going to be the most difficult part of the effort (read $$$).
Otherwise, if it headspaces and functions shoot it and enjoy it.
