Safety checklist on new buy b/f shooting

Anticipating arrival of first Enfield next week and would like to get it ready to go to the range. Besides the once over mechanical and eye inspection including bore, are there any other items to verify. Im guessing headspace is the only other thing to check.

Any recommendations on GO/No Go gauges. I have used a set of Clymer gauges from Brownell's for my Garands. Same process for Enfields?

    Thanks in advance

The only gauge you really need is the .074 Field gauge. Available from Forster on special order for about $50 I think. SAAMI Field gauges are .070 or .071 and many rifles will fail when they are still well inside MoD spec.

Whatever works. I've never used the coin type gauges. I used to sell sets of military gauges from Arrowmark Tool and Gauge in Australiaicon which are the absolute best available but most over here won't pay the price for them anymore.

Personally, I would prefer to spend the extra money for better quality.

Well, gauges and tools are good for a lifetime or more if looked after properly. That being said: Are they really expensive? I'm sure the custom Forster gauge is good too. $50 doesn't go very far these days.

I have a set of the Okie gauges. Very handy at a show. No bolt disassembly required.

'Can I throw in a head space gauge real quick?'
    'Sure, go ahead.'

There's no bolt disassembly required for the military style gauges either.
