    Tell me about this K-31

    Hi,

I found this rifle from a private seller that wants $500 for it. It's probably the nicest example that I have seen. I believe the serial number puts it at 1953. The stock is not refinished and there are no gouges on the butt. Is this rifle worth the price? The metalwork and wood seem very good. There's no P on the serial number, any idea if this rifle was ex-police or unissued or anything like that?

The rifle was probably issued to an individual who took better care of it than most. These were personal weapons to the Swissicon, they kept them at home. As a later production rifle, it didn't see the many years of service earlier ones had so that may be a second reason why it is in such good shape.

Pricing something like that is up to the individual. They were extremely common a couple of years ago but are now getting harder to find at the shows and shops. They are still available from Sarco in the $295 range if I'm not mistaken but with the "cracked stock" designation that no one seems to know what it means. Sales of the ones I've seen tend to be in the $350 range with some being less, some a bit more. The condition of this one would make it more desirable. Only one I've seen priced that high has been sitting in my local gun shop for over a year now. It has a sling and matching bayonet but a chipped stock at the fore end. I expect it will be sitting there for quite a while at that price.

I think I will pass. I found one in not as perfect condition for $325 which is more reasonable. They are much scarcer than a year ago.

SOG has the slings and muzzle protectors. Ordered a few and slings which seem to be in nice usable condition with appropriate marKings. These rifles are quite facinating and unique.
