Assuming this is a 98 action, the new bolt would need to be checked with headspace gauges at least, so this is probably something you want a gunsmith to check for you. Physically the dimensions for 30-06 and 8mm Mauser on the base of the cartridge case are the same, according to a Speer reloading manual I have, so theoretically you should be able to get an 8mm bolt and use it. Once again I stress you should have it checked by a gunsmith before shooting.

I was at The Dealer Warehouse in Modesto, CA last month. He has a box of nice 98 bolts at decent prices. Give him call.

I ran into Mike at the gun show at Oaks and he had an unknown mauser with no bolt for sale. I was carrying a K98 bolt and slipped it in. Smooth as butter and everything worked. Did some research at home and discovered it was a Columbian mauser, so worn the crest was gone other than the round outline.

As best as I know the rifles were built by FN as 7mm Mausers. They were converted into .30-'06 in the 1950's. They will take any FN bolt and should take a nice German bolt, too. You owe that ex-girlfriend a beer. She let you see her true colors before marriage. That is worth beer!
