300 mtr shoot with my H&R M1 Garand.
Went to range today to try out some newly aquired Danish
M2 ammo to compare it with Austrian M2 and my handloads. Both Danish and Austrian ammo shoot to around 10"- 12" at 300 mtrs, nothing to write home about, but it's the cheapest ammo available. Then I tried my hand loads, which are 168 grn SMKs sat on top of 48grns of Viht N140 in a Prvi Partizan case.I was pleasantly surprised at the result, the best group was 12.5 cm, = 4.9". That works out at 1.5 MOA. I was doubly pleased because the bloke next to me did no better with his M1D and the bloke on the other side did no better with his target rifle.

A national match bedding job should eliminate the vertical stringing and you will have a real match winner!

There is a simpler solution, I need to get my a**se in gear and shoot properly. The groups with the M2 ammo were more or less round. So the vertical stringing in this case is simply down to the nut behind the butt. (that's a rifle butt to those on the left hand side of the Pond).

A post front sight and a round aiming mark can also contribute to vertical stringing.

Normally yes, but I always hold my breath, then close my eyes count to three and open my eyes. If i'm still on aim then all is well. Mostly my aim does not wonder. So I must have screwed things up by some other method. However I reckon that 1.5 MOA for a rifle of that era is above average performance. I thing that the very best might just reach 1 MOA, which if I can sort out my act might be achievable. Have to wait and see.
