Mystery Item, Cover No 1?

I have this mystery leather cover of some sort which, according to the vendor, came from Latvia. I wondered if anyone could positively identify exactly what it is, please? Many thanks for any information and help.

Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Leather cover for an artillery, anti-tank gun or flak sight?

I have no idea, but it looks to me like some sort of lens cover. Looks like it might have had straps attached to it at one point.
