Repro USMC front site with cover
Quick post to show how Bill Bentz's repro USMC front site will fit inside the standard front site cover. I remove the cover when I shoot, but it appears "do-able" to shoot with the cover on.

I have a new (old) USMC sight cover, but it will not "spring" open to fit on the frontsight. Is there a way to spread the clamp so that it will slip on/off easily?

I have heard tales of "impossible" front site covers that would not remove without scratching the finish on the barrel. Looking at the gauge of the metal, I believe this. However, mine slips on and off with ease while also tight enough to stay in place when being used. I think it is luck of the draw.

The USMC front sight cover that is oversize in order to fit over the USMC wider front sight was NOT designed to be removed easily. It was supposed to be installed, and then left on the rifle for shooting. If you spread the "wings" on your USMC cover, you may risk damaging the device. HTH, KarlKW
