1910 SMLE for restoratation..
This arrived today, have got my work cut out on this one, compared to the last bubba,d one i got, the butt is quite a work of art.
(the last bubba,d SMLE was a No1 MkV and is nearly finished, pics in the Restorers corner forum)
Its a 1910 No1 Mk111, original barrel (missing 3"), the action has had a few drills through for a mount, see pic, charger bridge missing, interesting bit is the N (Naval) on the left side.
I knew it had the mount on, and was looking at making another mount, to make a repro WW1 sniper rig. The barrel i was going to extend and sleeve with a .22 liner, and use on the MkV but as its matched may leave it with this.

That butt is a work of art, I've got a couple like that. Someones done a beautiful job of scarfing/joining in the comb and pistol grip. I might try one myself out of bits and pieces.
I'd love to know who has all the bands, nose caps, barrels bands, rear sight protectors etc... from these cut down jobs. I've got a few range rifles crying out for rear sight protectors...

Unless you restore it as a sporting rifle of the time with a period scope & mount, a friend has a sportarised P14 with an early scope & its a pleasure to use.
Any hint of who carried out the conversion to sporter, the style is slightly different from the parker hale conversions but the butt is similar to the Parker hale Supreme No.1

From here it looks like: 303 BRITISH
"Self-realization. I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

Odd to see that "303 BRITISH" mark in the UK, sounds more American.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.

For what it is, it looks fairly nicely done. Probably not bubba - maybe a gunsmith.

Maybe the original conversion done by a gunsmith, but not the mount, side of the action looks like a colonder. Some previous tapped holes look well done but the rest....
