1915 DWM Gew 98 with M1898 bayonet
So this followed me home today. A 1915 DWM Gew 98 with GG Haenel Suhl M1898 bayonet.
Bayonet and scabbard are unit marked, however they are two different units. ID help on these unit markings would be much appreciated. Bayonet was manufactured in 1901, and appears to be an early one piece wraparound handle.
Rifle is all matching save for the bolt, which matches itself. Bolt handle is bent, but at a bit of an angle, much like a 98k. It is Imperial marked, so it is a Gew98 bolt..Im not sure this wasn't meant to be bent.
When you snap that bayonet on this rifle, you have an instant lance..lol. Its an intimidating piece for sure.

The bent bolt handle could be from a sniper rifle ?

That's a lit nicer rifle than you usually drag home. Looks great.

It wouldn't be from a sniper, that is likely the work of bubba. I have encountered many milsurp rifles in standard configuration except someone turned down the bolt for some unexplained reason.
Otherwise nice rifle!

If you look at the expanded front picture of the bolt handle you can see the heat discoloration.
Nice looking set for sure. When I was young, these were far more common and not such a big thing. Now that they're over 100 years old they're just plain great to see change hands.

the bayonet looks like it would be half way to the enemy trenches!

Rifle re-blued after WWI. Bubba did the bolt? Hard to tell now. Does the bolt match? Looks like a nice find and a keeper.

Looks like its turned brown..once you take it out of the wood, you can see the 'white' metal underneath.
