What Ever Happened to those Boot Camp 03's

I've often wondered what happened to all those 03's that we marched with at Navy boot camp in Orlando back in '68. Any one have an idea?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I'll bet most of them went to Kaptain Krunch.

At Great Lakes we used odd looking bolt action drill rifles. They definitely weren't '03s or real rifles. I saw one in an Ohio gun shop a few years ago that I thought was the same or similar. I remember doing the 16 count manual of arms for 8 hours straight one day

I think most of them went to NJROTC and ROTC units, leaded barrels and all.

When I went thru Boot in 58 the 03's were the real deal. They were all up and operational. Small arms training with M1icon's too. Still trusted us back then.

    03 Springfields

We had 03's in Navy boot camp San Diego in 1969. We fired m1 at the range.
