    Unknown Zeiss scope

I recently came into a Karl Zeiss straitbarreled scope about 9inches long. It looks about a 3-6 power with a knurled ring around the barrel about a 3rd of the way from the eye relief.

It was brought back by a veteran of WWII and was received with a bunch of other german stuff.

It is 9 inches long, made of brass, thick black paint covered with a wear mark on the end where an eye piece probably was previously. The reticule is a cross hair with nothing else (no distance hash marks). One last identifying feature is a small 1/3 ring shaped piece 1/3 rd of the way around the barrel with two screws holding it in place.

It says "Zeiss 12834" between the knurled ring and other 1/3 ring. I take this to be a serial number.

Would you or any other forum participants know anything about this scope??

    Thanks and best regards,

p.s. I originally asked this question a few months ago and didn't get a definitive response so I thought i would try again.
