The BNP marking is a pressure proofing mark. 'M47C' tells you it was made a BSA factory in Shirley. What you have is this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._AM.032027.jpg

Probably altered to sporting configuration, post-service.

There is a nice little green H/C book you need to get to learn about this line of the Lee Enfields Titile = .303 No. 4 (T) SNIPER RIFLE and the Holland & Holland Connection By Peter Laidlericon with Ian Skennertonicon ISBN 1 85367 144 4

As we have no pics to go on the butt stock came in 4 sizes; Bantam - 11 inches; Short – 11 ½ inches; Regular – 12 inches; Long – 12 ½ inches

It may also be that the sniper may have wished to have a non standard length in between who knows the length of the butt is measured from the top where the butt socket joins the butt across the top of the comb to the top of the butt plate.

My guess is the hand guards have been cut down as previously suggested.

That narrows it down to a bubba if the fore woods have been hacked I guess...! unless it is some type that was trialed and never documented which has happened in the past.

Or it could be an L42A1 and he didn't see the markings on the side of the receiver. You never know. Let's hope he posts some pictures to narrow it down quickly.
