3" 50 cal.?
Looks like a 3" 50 cal. Projectile dia is 3". The 50 cal means it is designed to be fired in a barrel with a length that is 50 calibers of the bore dia or 3" x 50 calibers = 150" long barrel.

I agree, a 3"50 cal. Nothing special...if you took some acetone and clean the paint off you'll see all the markings there clearly. I'll tell you what we were told about the steel in Canadian service...which was Navy only...steel is for training only and brass is for war. Since while those were in service on the last group of destroyers we were always training and never war you could see either.
Now, that being said, you can find US issue steel cases for most calibers from pistol to Howitzer and they used it everywhere.
You need a projectile now. Top row, fourth from right with dark blue projectile.

Looking good with the collection Jim.
Some older pics;
Pic #1 Some of my small stuff got about twice as much put away metrics, nitro's, mil spec ammo etc missing is a complete Aiden 30mm round.
(See if Jim recognises one case!)
Pic #2 the large gear that will be it now for me, as it is getting so damned expensive for cases or projies now my 106mm RCL HEAT round would fetch $650-700/Aud to get now.
I also have not pictured a brass 105mm Leopard 1 case very scarce one to acquire cost me an arm & half a leg that one!

You could turn one out of a hardwood, maple easily enough and paint it. There's a guy in Seattle area that produces 3D printed projectiles if you search him. I have three of his.
Yep, the 35mm...I had to make a projee for that one myself because some just won't ever turn up here. I had to do that with a 1.1" US Navy casing yesterday. I have two casings and I'll never find a projectile in Canada while one collector in the US had five or six complete rounds...not fair. Here's my cases followed by what they SHOULD look like.
