    #4 Enfield assembly problem

I bought a #4 Sporter awhile ago and decided to restore it. I got a new forend and some other parts that I needed. I finally started to put it back together tonight. Something is Wrong and I am at a loss as what to do. The front swivel band is way off.

Origins of the fore end and the band?

More pics from other angles and an overall fore end view might help.

No4 and No5 mid bands are the same, I think. 2a1 mid band?

Or is the wood new mfg?

Nothing might be wrong as it looks as if the band is sitting proud of the groove. If you can get the two lugs just a bit closer together, the sling swivel should take up most of the space, with the screw tightening the two lugs on the band that holds the fore-end to the handguard.

Get the band down in the groove, that may help.

The fore arm came from Numrich Arms. It was very dirty but new, looked like it had been laying in a bin for years Origin is anyone's guess. I'll get some more pictures later, Got to Go take the dogs for a walk. Jack The fore stock has what looks like a 138 inside a box with a U above. Picture is upside down.

Try a different variation band like the sheet metal third variation band below.

This one had the opposite problem and required a "band-aid" by the Armourer.

    Now tighten up.

One of my problems is spare parts. I just remembered last night that I need a front band. Who sells these parts now a day's ? As far as the fore arm goes, I'll just have to shave the groove down. I was hoping I had it on backwards or something Jack

Broad arrow marked No4 or No5 band it is, so, no not a SMLE band or even an Indian 2a1 band. Will it fit your No5?

No it won't fit the #5. It only fits the sporter stock. That's why I am thinking it was fabricated for that stock. It was a Santa Fe conversion.
