Newbie Question,
To start with, I'm not familiar with M1917 models or parts. With that said:
As I was leaving a local pawn shop, the owner asked if I knew anything about a loose barrel he picked up in a loose lot purchase.
Typical dark lighting in there, but first seen the barrel had nothing attached, like a frt sight.
Barrel had,
The front slot key way for a frt sight like a M1 carbine barrel.
Below that was a W stamped, a Flaming Bomb below the W, and the date of 12-18 below the bomb.
Barrel had almost a full skirt.
Barrel measured from muzzle to skirt... 25 1/4". Measured 26" to end of threads.
Index line on the bottom.
On the 'Chamber' there was what at first I thought looked like one side of a deer rack.
Closer look, seen it was a Eagles head, a smaller bomb stamp, then another Eagles head below the bomb.
I found stamped sideways on the barrel's left side: -300-WIN-MAG-
Finish was dark gray park, showing thinned wear from frt sight and band attachments, but overall clear of rust on the exterior.
I did not look inside, so I can't at this time tell about bore condition, or if left or right twist.
Shop Owner thought it might be a 1917 Enfield.
I don't know, but found pictures I can use for EXAMPLES to show SIMILIAR MARKINGS I seen.... except the -300- WIN- MAG- stamp I seen. Which I assume was rechambered from 30-06.
Owner didn't mention a asking price and I have no use for it, just curious about it and trying to help him properly ID it. If need be the shop is close by, I could always stop back in and give a better look see.
Will checking the groove rotations and number of help ID this barrel?
Little Info, I know...... Any possible thoughts?
Thx,
