Six U.S. WWII guns – manufactured in 1942 and 1943.

I have posted stuff on these guns at various points in the past…but I decided to lump them all together….I am not sure whether this is the best place to do this?

Serial number S 432702, manufactured January or February 1942 by Savage.

M1A1icon carbine, serial number 123829, barrel dated 12-42, manufactured by Inland.

Ordnance Department’s ‘Flaming Bomb’ acceptance stamp, “RLB” (Col. Roy L. Bowlin was the A.I.O. Ordnance inspector, once the inspectors stamp was stamped on a gun, it became government property),
“GEG” in a circle ( GEG is for George E. Goll, the AO civilian inspector and former driver for General John T. Thompson)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

M1A1 carbine, serial number 123829, barrel dated 12-42, manufactured by Inland.

Inspector’s stamp W.B. (Waldemar Broberg Col. US Army)
WB was stamped on Colt 1911A1 pistols in the 753,000 serial number range to about 865,000.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Manufactured in 1943;

Winchester M97 trench shotgun, serial number 953081E.

M1 rifle, Springfield Armory manufactured, serial number 1722249, EMcF. inspected.

Inspectors cartouche : SA over EMcF with crossed cannons escutcheon.

The Germans made some changes in their small arms-1942-1943....I think.

The MP40 and Luger P.08 were replaced with the MP44 (Stg 44) and the P.38.
(The P.38 as early as 1940 ---I think.)

A new cartridge for the German Army in 1943 for the MP43 ,MP44 and Stg44.
    7.92x33mm (KurzPatr43mE)

This possibly created an ammunition supply problem.

    The MP44.

The MG34 was eventually replaced by the MG42.

    (MG34 -top photo.....MG42 bottom.)

A couple of books that describe the German "mind set" at that point that prompted some of these changes.

Two five round stripper clips 7.92mm x57 for the K98kicon bolt action rifle which was
the main German battle rifle for most of WWII (5 shot integral box magazine).

    NOTE:

(I know nothing about the G/K 43 or G41 WWII German semi-auto rifles...I don't own one and I have never seen one.)

Also shown is one eight round clip of .30-06 cartridges for the U.S. M1 rifle (semi-automatic) which was the main U.S. battle rifle of WWII.

I think the Americans retained the small arms they had during this period ..with certain specific modifications and improvements on certain guns. i.e. Thompson M1A1icon, M1 carbine. etc.

    Thanks Lee,

It has been an interesting collecting/ learning experience over forty five years which started with U.S. Civil War stuff.

The C.W. stuff is where my collecting interest will probably continue…..slowly.
