    Enfield No. 5 Bayonet

Any ideas to the value of this bayonet, and if it is legit or not? Came together with a No. 5 dating 1945 I recently sold.

Appears to wear the same green color as the Jungle Carbines originally did. Bayonet dates 1947 and has a P in a circle on it. Though both grips do not match the color of each other, they obviously have been together for quite some time. Both wear markings, see the pictures.

Would be interested what the value of those would be, as I usually do not care on bayonets .

    Thanks in advance,

    Georg

Looks like an ex Indian Army one and as original as they come. Value; put it up for auction. That is the only TRUE value

Peter, I just simply dislike the idea of auctioning something. Not only that a big company such as eBay will profit, I prefer to sell it directly to a certain person, where I know it will find a good place - for a fair price . My question also had the background that, as previously stated, I have absolutely no idea what this could be worth. $20, $100, $500, ... ? Or Pounds, Euro, ... Would be satisified if someone could give me a rough range

Furthermore, the question was not what this item is or where it came from. If you didn't notice, this thread also has the prefix "Value?". If I wanted to auction it, I wouldn't have posted it here!

    ATB,

    Georg

Hi Georg, I have no idea what the value of your bayonet outside the UKicon would be but in the UK it would probably fetch £100 to £150 as they are sort after and in short supply.

Buccaneer is spot on with the price, in fact the £100 is a little low, starting I would say is £110. The No7 demands a high price also £120 -£150. It seems the SLR (L1A1) is creeping up all the time I seen a few of these marked up at £60 at the War and Peace show.

It may well be from ROF Poole but I was simply elaborating on that fact in that it was also, in my opinion, judging from the sloppy paint, ex Indian Army too. I realise that you didn't actually ASK this Promo, but being a kindly fellow and eager to please, I offered it anyway

Here's another suggestion that you might (or might not, depending on your point of view....) appreciate. Another way to ascertain a realistic value is to look what the various traders have to offer, deduct 30% or whatever you consider to be a dealers mark-up and use that figure as your ball park or what we in Englandicon call 'mates rates'

Different people put different values on things. To me, having never bought one in my life but having had hundreds passed through my hands in the course of work and having simply given them away in the past, they have absolutely no value whatsoever. A bit like SA80 or L1A1 bayonets really

Auction is the only way to find the true value but it does NOT have to be ebay who will not allow bayonet ads in the U.K. Use a local auction house that does militaria sales. That way someone who wants / needs one gets a chance to get it.

It is a Poole. Minimum value today is $160 US. I have not seen one of ANY manufacture sell for less than that in over a year.

Poole is probably the least desirable of a VERY desirable class of bayonets and that is simply because they were all made post WWII and no one knows exactly how many were made. Based on recent ebay sales, fair market value is probably in the $200-$250 range currently. Wait six months and you might be able to add another $50 to that. I have never seen a bayonet go up in value so fast as one of these. Reproduction garbage RFI bayonets are bringing $75 these days.

HOW much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone got ANY idea why their value is up there? The quantity of No5's hasn't increased vastly and the amount of No5 bayonets out equate pretty well to that. Jeeeeees!

Someone suggested that it's due to the amount of L2A3/Sterling parts kits that are now available and people wanting to make up the SMG and bayonet. But even with that (small.....?) demand, there can't be that much of a shortage - or can there? THere obviously is but..... any other ideas
