    Scored a nice one today

Was at a local shop and they had a T99 sniper rifle with scope. Looks unmessed with with later 4x scope. Scope does not match but locks up nice and smooth on the mount. Reticle is there but canted to the right. Forgot my DL so could mot take it home. This is my second T99 sniper with scope.

Well…get your D/L, grab the rifle and post some pictures!

This one came with the scope too. Even though the reticle is canted, it is an original scope. The number does not match, but the rifle is in really nice condition. I had to go out of town this morning, so pics will have to wait. I paid 1300 dollars, which I feel is fair giving the condition of the scope was fair. My other rifle is not in as nice a condition but the non matching scope on it is very nice.

I assume that the rifles chosen for sniper configuration would be the earlier (1940-42) Type 99s?

FYI, the vertical reticle lines will be slightly canted as the scope is offset from the bore. If it’s way far off, there is a way to fix it.

Again, I’m looking forward to pictures!

I can check my books when I get home but I believe most Type 99 sniper rifles are based off the early series 6 Nagoya rifle, no monopod. There were no special selections…they just pulled them off the line for modification. Based on the serial numbers, some Type 99 rifles originally came with a 2.5 power scope as they ran out of 4 power scopes. These are known as “cutback” Type 99 rifles.

Thank you. I had researched the PU sniper rifles so I could make an informed buying decision if I ever came across one. Guess I need to start researching Arisakaicon sniper rifles too!
