    Vulcan 440 44magnum M1 carbine like.

Wasn’t sure where to put this question so i’ll try here.
Friend has one of these pump carbine’s similar to the M1icon carbine that won’t extract the spent or live round every time?
If anyone has experience with this rifle or which forum on milsups i can pose this question i’m all ears. Thanks

Is the extractor spring at fault or the extractor? Those are definite weak points. The bolt face is smooth and that's all that draws the case back. If the chamber is rough, it could hold enough to keep from extracting. How does the fired brass look?

Here's a link for all to look the parts over for themselves.

I have some experience with this style extractor used in Iver Johnson 9mm carbines as well. Keeping the claw clean is a must and I had some improvement by grinding the claw a bit deeper with a Dremel tool.

Never was able to modify a GI extractor to work properly the way they chambered the gun. Only use GI extractors in rebored USGI barrels.

I would agree that a very clean polished chamber is critical, especially with a converted M1icon carbine to pump operation.

Agree with all of the above.
Is the Extractor folding in ok?
I'd also look to see if the Extractor's Plunger is positioned correctly and not rotated off the ledge. I'm not sure if it would be a factor but I'd have to take a look at that Roll Pin Ejector. Just to see if it's out of position, bent, or maybe binding in the bolt groove.
Greasing the receiver rails and bolt lugs sure couldn't hurt.

Pretty cool that a complete USGI Trigger Housing can be used. I read a post from 2013 on gun owners of Canadaicon where a owner modified a M1icon Carbine mag to use in his Vulcan .44 magnum. But he gave no details on how.

My partner in crime 03man and I did monkey around with converting a 30-caliber to pump. It was a complete failure. The issue was sticky brass and the mechanics of rotating and retracting the bolt. I realize that Universal redesigned the slide action and the Vulcan might not suffer a similar fate.

I do know that sticky brass or a tight chamber combined with a marginal extractor will cause the claw to jump back over the rim when attempting extraction.

I would polish the chamber mirror bright and maybe modify the extractor claw.

I did one on the other hand that worked flawlessly. I worked from memory of a design I saw when young...some gun magazine layout. Only our inane laws drove it away or I'd still be using it.

That's a really good question. It could be a small thing that would be obvious to us when in hand but we'll never guess it from here.
