1843 Hall Carbine

1843 Hall Carbine made in 1847 as marked on the block. Block tips up for loading. Fired by a musket cap. I believe 54 calibur. Smooth bore. Easier to load horseback. I'm selling this one for my Dad. Thought you might like to see one.

Nice gun. My brother has one that is quite similar. Like most guns of that vintage the lock was converted from flint lock to percussion.
The flinters are few and far between. Most likely used in the Civil War.

I don't believe that one was converted from a flintlock. If it's a 1843 it would have been made as a percussion.

I am no expert on Hall's since I have only seen my brothers. American Rifleman had a story
about Hall last year that said for years he tried to get the Army to accept his gun and when they finally did they told him they would only take it as a percussion and he said nuts to you.
If the story is correct or not I have no idea.
