Considering purchasing an Enfield No4 MkI*, need help id'ing markings

I am possibly purchasing a No4 MkI* and the seller had these markings on:

    receiver: left side
    no.4 Mk1 FTR (F.)
    no.4 mk1*
    /49 br19071

    receiver: socket
    BR
    M1944
    19071

    BOLT:
    C8850

    FURNITURE: VNS

    savage forward band
faz grub screw front sight assem.
    LB butt plate
    faz rear button bolt release
    various brit arrows all over
    sling marvel fairs

FTR refers to being post war refurbished?
What is (F)? Is that a English based producer?
Aside from post war refurb, is it close to being WWII issue?

Here's a link that will help with official markings.

It's a site provided by Amatikuluicon with some good information to bookmark for the future.

My take on it is that it is a 1944 manufactured Maltby (ROF Maltby in Yorkshire) which was then FTR'd by Fazakerly (F) near Liverpool in 1949. It has at some time (possibly during civilian ownership) had an assortment of 'bits' added (eg Savage parts).

The non-matching serial number on the bolt may be a concern and the headspace should be checked out before firing. This is certainly a civilian changed part as the military would have either used a new bolt and numbered it to the rifle,or, at worst struck thru' the old number and renumbered it to the rifle.

It will almost certainly have seen heavy wartime service (it needed rebuilding - FTR'ing after 5 years)

ROF Maltby did not make No4 Mk1* (they only made the No4 Mk1 - without the *), are you sure its a Mk1* ?

There is some evidence that a batch of Maltby's were marked up as Mk1* in error so it could be one of these.
Does it have the Mk1 type of bolt release (catch by the bridge) or the MK1* type (cut-out in the rail on the right hand side 1/2" before the chamber)

Edit - Beerhunter types faster than I do !!!

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Thanks for all the help. I decided to pull the trigger. I will post pics when I receive the rifle.
