Basically, they guy removed his rear sight on the 91/30 totally and what was left
after driving the pins out and shoving the assembly forward ...... were two deep grooves
in the barrel that would fit 22 scope mounts. The premise was that perhaps using
two sets ( total of four mounts) and using steel mounts instead of aluminum, the
clamp screws could be screwed down tight enough to hold in the grooves. Then also I think
he was talking about drilling a hole through one or two mounts and into barrel just a bit
for a good dimple and then threading the hole and putting screw in to hold the mount
during recoil. Sure seems like good idea but the steel mounts ( dont remember brand )
were real expensive compared to little alumunimum mounts.Information
