If you're referring to 8mm Kurtz, I made about 700 rds for a guy using 308 FC brass and the dies, used the forming die and cut them off...inside neck reamed and then sized and loaded them. The bullets were a 125 or 130 gr soft point. They worked perfectly... Way cheaper than buying I should think. Old ammo would be collectible and unreliable...
    Regards, Jim

There is newly-produced ammo, made by Prvi Partizan. You might even be able to buy the brass and bullets separately.

Have no idea who would have it in Australiaicon, but the Prvi brand "7.92X33 Kurz 124GR FMJBT" is currently available in the US. Which bodes well, as many "odd" rounds have been out of stock for some time!

In the good ol' days I manufactured cases for my MP44 out of 7.62 Nato blank rounds, the head of which is conveniently the same dimensions as the 8mm Mauser and derivatives. Snap off the rose crimp. dump the powder, then re-form the case in a 7.92 Kurz die, hacksaw off the surplus then trim to length and chamfer the resulting case mouth. Result: a ready-primed case ready to load.
Being manufactured as blanks the cases are made thinner than ball cases and the brass at the point of the new neck was thin enough not to need reaming out.

NEI used to make a 125gr .323in mould to take a gas check and these bullets were good for 2-300 yards.
The biggest problem was the propensity of the MP44 to fling the empty cases a couple of firing points away!

I was lucky enough to own one years ago and made the cases from 308. Man, that was a lot of work. Now you can buy new brass and the only bullet available that matches the original 8mm kurz is the Hornady 125 gr. I got my loading data from Cartridges of the World. Great book.

StG 44 is a "Prohibited Weapon" in NSW and all the Other states of Aus. So unless (a) you are a NSW Dealer with a PW endorsement, or (b) a "Film Armourer" ( or similar) then Forget getting ammo for a '44.. If you are a Lic. Collector, the '44 has to be deactivated (welded up).

And Legitimate MP/StG 44s in Australiaicon are like Hen's Teeth...there are about a dozen Known Legitimate ones in the whole country...I know of 7 in Qld...all Official WW II Post-trials. And all in Museums/Film use. (some welded, some "Live").

AS said, Wartime steel or DDR 7,9x33 PP43 ammo is collectible, and mostly Non-firing; only Prvi Partizan Makes New brass ammo, and it is NOT available in Australia.

I think you're missing the point a bit Doc, if I might be so bold as to mention it. The actual point is that someone in your part of the world wants to make some of the ammo. Why, or what he owns, lawfully or UN-lawfully is neither here nor there and of no consequence to us. And if he does own one and feels the need to shoot it, then let's all assume that it is all legal and above board and help him on his way.

It's no different to telling someone in NZicon how to tune his Jaguar to exceed the spreed limit there twice over. He MIGHT use it on a race track but on the other hand............
