A carved wooden No. 1 MkIII*

This recently surfaced from a local show. Carved from a wood blank. The metal parts are all home made. The small disc is marked, "7.38 / MD N J /10". I think this is neat and well in keeping with my home made No.1 MkIII .69 caliber matchlock.

Very unique item. I blew up the stock disc and it looks like it reads "7. 38, HB NI 10."

I did a quick internet search, and it could possibly be the 10th Hallamshire Battalion. Unsure of what the "N I" indicates.

I saw that and it reminded me a little bit of the stock carvings the maori soldiers in the ANZAC corps used to do on their rifles..

whoever it was made for would have been the coolest kid on the block with that.

A father had to really love his child to carve it. No going to the toy store and writing a check. If it was done during the war, all metal toys were banned and only wood product toy were allowed.
