    Newbury, Berkshire Auction Help Success

First, a big public shout-out to Robert B. who helped out a fellow collector who screwed up and did not check with the auction house before bidding (lesson learned!)

Second, as promised here is the bayonet in question, she is in great shape for her age and one of the last EFD made WW I examples.

From the internet pictures the month number was not readable, but the year 1916 is. I was hoping upon magnification I could determine the month but alas, it appears to be just the side of the stamping die. From observation, EFD's last WW I P1907's are dated 7/16 which I was hoping for but obviously cannot confirm.

If a collector in Germanyicon is interested there is a nice EFD 7/16 up for auction there, but the seller will not post internationally.

    Thanks again Robert!!

Hi Lance, the bayonet doesn’t look its age, that is one of the nicest examples I have seen in a long while.

Shame about the month striking, there are videos on YouTube about recovering ground off serial numbers, they use a rusting agent to good effect?

    Cheers and thank you 😊

The month digit looks to be a mis-strike. Either a 1 turned clockwise 90°, or a 7 turned upside down and held on the wrong angle.

As it doesn't appear to have been erased I would doubt there is anything to "recover".

    I could use a nice 1913 Enfield '07 meself.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.
