Nope, not at all. Perfectly suitable powder was used. There is a reason why lightweight .30 caliber bullets were not used for 300 meter and International loads. Both M72 and M118 reduced velocity loads used 174 grain bullets.

I was referring to the chart showing 2200 - 2400fps loads for the 155gr bullets. Yes, you would not use such a load for LR, but such a load with the right bullet makes for a very accurate and light recoiling short range load. I use them for the 200 yard F Class Matches I shoot.

And if you used a powder with the correct chamber impuls you would get a neck seal and not end up with blow by. It may not operate the gas system but it will not blow by. I always turned the gas system off. I did not get blow by with cast bullets in the M1A either.

Actually, I was looking at the title of this thread as started by duggaboy. Reduced/short range loads weren't what he was asking about.
