Blue sky import question

Ok i have done searching for threads on this subject till my eye bleed so now i am starting a thread first off i have always wanted one but finances hold me back from having the cash for a perfect one.

Ok i ran into two springfield garands at a pawn shop both esthetically are ok the finish on the metal is probably in the low 90s i did get to peek down the barrel and saw no corrosion or damaged rifling they are asking $725 but after a small amount of bartering i got it down too 675 are they even worth that?

That being said i don't have a throat tool to test wear and don't have any 30-06 ammo to test the end question is will a .308 work or something else i might have laying around i have also read up on blue sky imports and read about some of the problems they have so i am thinking i may get this price even lower.

Yes i know there are a lot of other variables to consider and i really wished i owned a proper tool to check wear( but i don't) and i am very interested in both of these rifles so i looking for a little help on what these rifles may be worth ( ballpark of course) and any other advice you can offer would be appreciated.
