    My only Enfield (so far)

I'll probably add a No. 4 Mk 1 if I come across a nice one.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Fine looking No.7! To bad that you couldn`t buy rifles in Germanyicon. A dealer over here sells No.4 from the Italianicon Navy and there are some wonderful pieces in excellent condition for $ 600. Long Branch made with 5 groove barrels.

Congratulations - did you realise you'd got a 'rare' one ?

It took me years to get mine (Serial number BS1892).
UK prices are between US$1500 and $2000. I bet you got a bit better deal in the US ?

Just in case you dont know the history of these training rifles :

Although a No.7 Mk I, the Britishicon version is very different from it's Canadianicon counterpart. This rifle was a conversion of an existing No.4 and is interesting in that a BSA five-round commercial .22 magazine was welded into a SMLE Mk III* magazine to produce the only Enfield .22 repeater. These rifles were a special contract and produced exclusively for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1948. Total production 2,500.

You are going to struggle to 'trump' a No7 with your next purchase (unless you are looking at an L42, Enforcer or 4T)
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

According to the fore-end, this NBo7 is based on a Mk1/2 or 2 body while mine is on a Mk1. Does anyone else have a Mk2 based No7 trainer?

Well looking at the forend, mine (BS1892) is a Mk1 as well - just to be sure - I took the trigger guard off and sure enough, its a Mk1

You have to really watch out for the recoil.
