Duckcreekdick is right. Cosmetics are just that. I get a kick out of taking guns apart and flip-flopping parts. Its yours, do what you want, but please shoot it! Thats the most fun!

I do plan to shoot it, next chance I get. I have ordered a correct butt plate and have my eyes on a couple lower bands. Just looking around, I was looking for a correct bolt. What would the markings on a correct bolt for my rifle. I have seen ones that list my rifle's year, marked with a "C8" and a straight bolt handle- is that the correct one for me? (I hope not, they seem pretty spendy) My stacking swivel has no marks is it correct? Thanks guys, I am very appreciative of all the responses.

Check out JB's bolt charts on vishooter's site (sticky). Lots of info there. Changing bolts can be pricey and can change headspace. Something to think about.

If your stacking swivel is from an A3 it will be stamped and flat versus round.

Let us know how it shoots!

Yeah, the stacking swivel is flat. I guess my plans would be to make this rifle as correct as I can, probably look for a stock last. I am having some trouble figuring out that vishooter site, but I am reading as much as I can about these rifles. Thanks all for the help so far.

I would be interested in that trade chuckindenver. I did take some additional photos of the bolt if you'd like to see them.

Happy camper here. I PM'd chuckindenver day before yesterday, stopped by his place yesterday with my rifle and picked this beauty up a few hours later. Great guy, learned a ton and he does awesome work. Long story short- the barrel my rifle came with was garbage, it poorly and dangerously installed. I also found out my stock was missing a bushing and several other things or concern about my rifle. So I got a new/more correct barrel, new/correct J5bolt, new butt stock plate and swing swivel band. (Need the correct middle swivel) Prior to installation, chuck re-parked everything to include my trigger guard and floor plate to match. Installed, headspace checked, test fired- the whole nine yards. Price was very friendly. I couldn't be happier with the entire experience. Thanks Chuck and I would recommend his services to anyone. On to the pics..............

looks great, make sure you give us a range report.. your rifle is the 4th one iv ran into with a hand tight barrel, that was over indexed...scary..
and to think...someone was shooting that rifle at one time that way..the crusty bore proved that.
you got lucky,,,my tanks were fired up and running, and i was in a work mode.. lol....normally 8 hour service is not the norm...

    Reverend,

Mighty fine work, and nice of you to let Chuck cut in line. Wish I had your goldmine of parts.
