Once again, the scarce as hen's teeth cam pattern that was withdrawn. Wouldn't you like to have a set of that!

The Army had to withdraw them they looked to much like Germans. I wonder if there is a back room in a wharehouse some where with boxes of them.

Here's my set. I read different stories of why they stopped issuing them including the SS story and also that the army dropped them because they found that the regular plain OD colored field clothes offered just as good camoflauge. Ray

They appear to be an HBT type of material??? I thought that sort of material was almost exclusively Pacific. As for the cam pattern, I wore olive drab for 25 or so years with the odd flash in the pan of camo clothing. We found the same thing, the stuff we had worked just fine as was.

My first thought was that he was wearing captured Germanicon camo, I never knew we had such a thing in WWII Europe. I know some GIs used German white camo in winter.

I believe there were many troops who landed on D-Day with that cammo pattern. There are even early eppisodes of the T.V. series "Combat" were they were it. It was to close to some Germanicon patterns and was withdrawn. Back to the pic, notice the empty clip pouches on his belt? Also a
german canteen? And possibly a M98 next to his M1icon. One tough looking G.I.....Frank

Here's a great thread I think you will enjoy that was posted on these camo uniforms and that has lots of photos. Ray

    WW2 Camo Set - U.S. Militaria Forum

Interesting, here's one of the posts on that thread about the mistaken Id with the SS.

"The Author of the book 'Battle for Brest, Americans in Brittany' by Jonathan Gawn who has visited many of the archive's for his material and who's pet subject is the cammo question of this uniform being mistaken for SS cammo. He has said that there is no written account or evidence of mistaken identity happening with Germanicon cammo. I believe the cammo uniform was used to make up for a shortage of uniforms at that time. If there was a problem of mistaken identity then who would ride around Franceicon on a motor cycle as seen in previous photos. "
